choice

The governor is elected by the people. The electoral term has been four years since 1984 (also from 1836 to 1874, between 1874 and 1984 only two years). Eligible for governor are anyone who is at least 30 years old, is a citizen of the United States and has resided in the state for at least seven years prior to the election. Immediate re-election is only possible once due to a referendum in 1992.

Deputy Governor

The office of Lieutenant Governor ( lieutenant governor ) was introduced in 1863, abolished in 1868 and introduced in 1925 again. The lieutenant governor is elected by the people at the same time as the governor.

By 1925, in the event of a vacancy in the governorship, the President of the Arkansas Senate became governor until the end of his own term. This led to a quick change in office. For example, in 1913 , William Kavanaugh Oldham served only six days in the governorship before he was replaced as Senate President. In the event of a vacancy in the office of President of the Senate of the governor took the place of the Chairman ( Speaker ) of the House of Representatives from Arkansas .
