action

Long-term intern Annika has the chance of a permanent position at the record company "GrandMusic". As a rehearsal, she is supposed to prepare the Finnish boy group "Ripili" for a young talent competition in Germany. When the band arrives at the airport, Annika notices that the band is the third-rate Finnish death metal band "Rypeli": They misunderstood the Finnish agent on the phone. Annika cannot and does not want to give up the band because her position as a producer depends on winning the competition. At the first rehearsal it quickly becomes apparent that it will be very difficult to get the band fit for the competition; But the boys also have their “good” sides - Annika understands what the agent meant on the phone by “raw diamonds”. She consistently thwarted any attempt by the head of the record company to get to know the Finnish musicians. After some back and forth, the band members learn to play together. But then a dispute breaks out because Matti, the band's singer, gets breathless and cannot sing. He had previously failed a talent show because of this. Annika immediately takes Matti to the doctor - the diagnosis is asthma. Without further ado, the bass player is appointed singer.

Matti and Annika fall in love. The band is making great strides, changing their style towards hard rock and having a competitive edge, and Matti is learning to deal with asthma. But during an in-house presentation it is revealed that Annika organized the wrong band - she is fired and “Rypeli” has to fly back to Finland. Annika does not give up and finds out whether she could somehow take part in the competition: The prerequisite for this is a record label that either has a certain amount of capital or has been in the music business for at least 10 years. The friend in whose studio she rehearsed with “Rypeli” has been in business for a long time, so they set up a record label together and bring the Finns back to Germany. The band is admitted to the competition. Shortly before the competition starts, Matti decides to sing the song himself and the band wins. Paula, Annika's older sister, who quit her job at a cosmetics company, is with Erkki, Rypeli's bassist, and accompanies Annika, who is now with Matti, on tour.

Director

The film was directed by Marco Petry, who also worked as a director in the film School .

criticism

"Trimmed for turbulence, shallow (television) mix-up comedy that alludes to the winning group of the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 (Lordi) and flirts with the reputation that Finland enjoys in Western Europe due to a number of prejudices."

background

Volker Bruch, Lasse Myhr and Daniel Zillmann had to learn the Finnish language especially for their roles in the rock band.
