Thierbach Castle ruins
The Thierbach castle ruins are located in the Thierbach district of Bad Steben in the Upper Franconian district of Hof.
The castle was built by the von Waldenfels family at the end of the 15th century . In the Second Margrave War it was destroyed by troops of Heinrich von Plauen in 1554 and again in the Thirty Years' War . The castle was always rebuilt. Only when the finished fiefdom fell back to the Margraves of Bayreuth with the death of Enoch von Waldenfels in 1727 , it was abandoned to decay. The bells of the castle chapel were brought to St. Georgen . Johann Christoph Stierlein sketched the ruins and carried out measurements. At the beginning of the 19th century, the stones from the castle ruins were used to build the bathing facilities in Steben . Today only remains of the wall are visible.
In addition to the traces of the castle, farm buildings have been preserved as architectural monuments . It is a residential stable house and barns with pitched roofs . The facility is located on the Burgstall hiking trail of the Franconian Forest Association .
