Mechlenreuth tower hill

The Tower Hill Mechlenreuth is an Outbound medieval motte (Motte) in place of the present village pond of Mechlenreuth , District of Münchberg in the district of Hof in Bavaria .

The castle, which served to protect the village and the road or as a Fronhof , was first mentioned on April 19, 1533 in a register of the Lords of Sparneck as "whale". The castle was mentioned again on October 20, 1537, and in the deed of 1537 for the fenced-in noblemen's house. At that time, the castle complex had long since lost its defensive character and was probably already in serious disrepair. In later registers the fortification is only referred to as "near the pond systems".

In the 17th or 18th century, the tower hill was completely demolished, the still existing moat was expanded to a pond with fish farming, which still exists today as a village pond.
