Förbau ring wall

The ring wall Förbau is an Outbound Ringwallanlage to 560  m above sea level. NHN near Förbau at the Förmitztalsperre in the district of Hof in Bavaria .

The ring wall is also known as the castle stable , it was possibly used as a refuge . The facility is not documented and is therefore not specifically identified by name. According to Karl Dietel , however, it makes sense to address the complex as the upper residence of Förbau. This is documented until the end of the 14th century and, like the lower residence, was owned by the von Hirschberg family . Accordingly, the Burgstall was created to secure the borders of the Regnitzland .

The ring wall system is located at one end of the Heidberg ridge ( 560  m above sea level ), so that it slopes steeply on three sides and is secured by ditches with an outer wall. The Förmitz was another obstacle in the valley . Hills, ditches and outer walls as traces of a relatively large complex for the region are clearly recognizable. It is located in the forest above the dam of the Förmitz reservoir. Access is not signposted.

Excavations by the long name association in 1951 underpinned the medieval time of origin, but did not uncover any further finds or remains of foundations. The presence of a tower could not be clarified.
