Church in Förbau

Förbau is a district of Schwarzenbach an der Saale in the Upper Franconian district of Hof .

The church village is located on the Saale , about 2.5 km southwest of Schwarzenbach and north of the Förmitztalsperre . The Altort is located northwest of the Saale, with some settlement areas in the south and east.

In 1317 Förbau was first mentioned as "Vorbin" and in 1390 as "Forwein". Other early names were "Vorweyn", "Vorwein", "Forbin" and "Förba". The von Hirschberg , Sparneck and Himmelkron monastery were initially wealthy in the village . A ring wall is located near the Förmitztalsperre . During the Thirty Years' War the place was reduced to seven houses with eleven inhabitants. The castle was last inhabited by the Schönburg-Waldenburg family before it was sold and demolished.

In addition to the church, the architectural monuments include a stable house , an inn as a former castle estate and two stone crosses on the road to Schwarzenbach. The place has an Evangelical Lutheran branch church, the foundation of which dates back to 1341.

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Förbau was incorporated into the town of Schwarzenbach an der Saale.

Local roads connect the place with, among others, Schwarzenbach and Seulbitz . Förbau has a stop on the Bamberg – Hof railway line .

The Schwarzenbach landscape painter Anton Richter made pictures of the place and its surroundings.
