Anton Richter (born December 31, 1900 in Schwarzenbach an der Saale ; † March 24, 1962 in Schwarzenbach an der Saale) was a German landscape painter .

Anton Richter came from a long-established Schwarzenbach family, from which the artist Jean Paul , actually Johann Paul Friedrich Richter, also emerged. He had two siblings and was married to Hilde Richter. After his apprenticeship as a confectioner, he worked from 1920 to 1923 in his parents' business, a linen dyeing factory. The family's house still exists on Färberstrasse , a street in the old town parallel to the Saale . It stands as a residential house from the 18th century monument . First he acquired knowledge himself and took part in a correspondence course in painting and drawing. In 1938 he was awarded the Albrecht Dürer Prize . The Albrecht Dürer Foundation made it possible for him to receive a scholarship and he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and studied with Professor Adolf Schinnerer from 1939 to 1941 . In 1942 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and served as a medical soldier in the Balkans until 1945. He recorded his impressions in pictures and sketches, even during his brief captivity in Schleswig-Holstein. Since the end of the war he has been a freelance artist with numerous exhibitions focusing on the Franconian region. His pictures deal with a. with scenes from the everyday life of the people in his hometown and the surrounding villages. The landscape of the Fichtelgebirge area was also a central theme.

Anton Richter was a member of the Franconian Artists 'Association, the Free Group Bayreuth , the Northern Franconia Group and the New Munich Artists' Cooperative . In the post-war years, a group of painters met at the Richters' in Schwarzenbach. a. Werner Gilles , Ernst Schumacher , Alfred Kutzscher , Arthur Seedorf , Karl Bedal and Bruno Goller. Herbert Schildbach learned from him. Edgar Schindler speaks of the "Schwarzenbacher painter group". Since 1949, Anton Richter was regularly represented at the exhibitions at the Haus der Kunst in Munich . Bavarian government organizations as well as cities and private galleries were among the buyers of his works. From 1957 he received large-scale frescoes for industry, banks, schools and other public buildings. In 1958 he was awarded the Jean Paul Medal. In 2009 the Upper Franconian Foundation acquired works that were still in existence and made them available to the city of Schwarzenbach for exhibitions. His works are assigned to late impressionism .
