Hartungs Tower Hill

The tower hill Hartungs , also called Hartungs Castle or Schloss Hartungs , is a defunct tower hill castle (Motte) in Hartungs , a district of the municipality Leupoldsgrün in the district of Hof in Bavaria .

History and description

The tower hill was built as a Vorwerk and moated castle of the von Lüchau family on Konradsreuth and served to secure the old road to Ahornberg . The core hill has a diameter of 15 to 20 meters, the moats, which can still be seen in the north and west, are six meters wide. The complex was described as a double castle in the middle of the 16th century, and Pezold Vasmann was passed down as a roommate as early as 1390 . 1398 the Lüchauer of Johann III. enfeoffed, they owned seven estates and two inns in the area. In the brewery of the castle , the beer was brewed for the inns.

Since Heinz von Lüchau supported predatory opponents of the free imperial city of Nuremberg , the city demanded that various knights be accountable and also the destruction of several castles. The Swabian Federation finally destroyed a selection of castles during a punitive expedition in 1523 .

During the Thirty Years' War the moated castle was destroyed by Croatians in 1632. The adjacent, higher-lying farm yard developed over time into a manor. The Lüchauer, who founded their own older and younger line in Hartungs, died out in 1667.
