Ghost Stories (. English for " ghost stories ") is the sixth studio album of the British alternative rock - band Coldplay . The album was released in Germany on May 16, 2014. On May 19, 2014, the album was released in the UK and USA. The album was preceded by three singles: Magic , released March 3, 2014, Midnight , released April 19, 2014, and A Sky Full of Stars , released May 2, 2014.

background

In 2011, Coldplay released the group's fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto . Originally intended as a "set back, acoustically-influenced" album, it became Coldplay's most experimental and pop-oriented album. It was described as "luxuriously colorful" - the refrains are "bigger, the textures more pompous and the optimism even more optimistic". Produced by Markus Draws, Brian Eno, Rik Simpson and Dan Green, the album reached number 1 on the charts in eighteen countries and went platinum in sixteen countries . Coldplay's subsequent world tour of North America, Europe, Australia and Asia raised $ 110 million. In the creative process of their sixth studio album, Coldplay wanted to go back to the "stripped, more acoustic" sound that was originally intended to make their fifth studio album - back to the simple style that was envisaged before Mylo Xyloto was overproduced . Drummer Will Champion told the BBC about this idea:

“Yeah, that might be nice, actually. There's only so far you can go without becoming pompous and a bit overblown, so we'll treat that line very carefully. Reset. Recalibrate. "

“Yes, that would be really nice. You can only go to a certain point without looking pompous or cluttered, so we'll be very careful with that limit. Reset to default. Recalibrate. "
