Music video

The music video was made under the direction of Mat Whitecross and played in England and South Africa . The video is about an African elephant (played by frontman Chris Martin ) who escapes from an English zoo to return to his homeland. He rides a bicycle and the London Underground to Heathrow Airport . Hidden in a suitcase, he flies to South Africa on an airplane . There he bought a unicycle with the money he made as a street musician and continued to ride it until he met his band members Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion (all also in elephant costumes). The video shows the places Cape Town (aerial view) as well as the streets of Johannesburg and the Johannesburg district of Braamfontein , where the Nelson Mandela Bridge and a number of level crossings can be seen. At the end of the video you can see the band members wearing elephant heads at a concert in Johannesburg in Soccer City . After the concert they returned to the Kalahari desert of South Africa.

reception

For Rolling Stone magazine the song is a "bombastic track with choir and strings" and a "solid Coldplay track". The magazine criticizes that he will "disappoint friends of the" old "Coldplay again" and criticizes the "inflated choir", the "string swamps" and the "billowing Brian Eno production". Jens Bauszus from Focus Online also speaks disparagingly of a “pompous single full of choral songs”. Andreas Borcholte the news magazine Der Spiegel describes the song as " anthemic R & B -Beat". Digital Spy noticed that the ge loopten glossy beats and swirling strings ( "looping, hi-gloss beats and swooping strings") to the song Apologize by Timbaland and Ryan Tedder remember, whereas the chanting of the chorus and the sluggish "para-para paradise " Hookline (" chant-along chorus and niggling 'para-para paradise' hook sounds ") would be ripe for sampling for a soon to be released Jay-Z single (" ripe for sampling on a not-too-distant Jay-Z single"). CD reviews praised that “the song unfolds a certain magic” and “just doesn't sound like all the other songs” on the album Mylo Xyloto . laut.de praises the chorus of the song: " Para-Para-Paradise screams out for sold out stadiums that sing along."
