Jonathan Mark "Jonny" Buckland , also known as Jon Buckland (born September 11, 1977 in Islington , London ) is a British musician and multi-instrumentalist who became known as the guitarist and co-founder of the band Coldplay .

Early life

Jonathan Mark Buckland was born in Islington, north London and lived there until he was four when his parents moved to Pantymwyn , Wales . At the age of eleven he began to play guitar under the influence of George Harrison , U2 and My Bloody Valentine, among others . His older brother Tim supported him. After finishing school, Buckland studied astronomy and mathematics at University College London , where he met his future band members Chris Martin , Guy Berryman , Will Champion and manager Phil Harvey and founded Coldplay with them.

style

Buckland mainly uses the Telecaster Thinline 72 ', among others when recording the albums Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends , X&Y and Mylo Xyloto . He also uses a Fender Stratocaster as a second guitar , but has made it clear that he prefers the Telecaster series. His style of play was most heavily influenced by U2's The Edge , and musicians like Joe King of The Fray , David Keuning of The Killers and Pat Monahan of Train were in turn influenced by Buckland's technique.

Personal life

In 2009 he married Chloe Evans. The two have two children: Violet (* 2009) and Jonah (* 2011).
