The castle ruin Braunstein is an abandoned castle on the grounds of the Brandstein estate in Brandstein , a district of the municipality of Berg in the district of Hof in Bavaria .
The castle is first mentioned in 1335 in the possession of the von Weißelsdorf family under the bailiffs of Weida . Your name gradually changes from brown stone to fire stone. In 1387 it was sold to the Burgraves of Nuremberg , which the von Murring family installed . The von Dobenck family owned the castle from 1390 to 1764 . It was sacked in 1632 during the Thirty Years War . At the end of the 18th century, the Schönfeld family built the Brandstein estate next to the castle site. The castle was largely demolished in 1788.
The castle is located on the northeast corner of the castle estate on a rocky hill. Remnants of the foundation wall reveal a heptagonal system and provide information about the division of the rooms.
