The Schwarzenbach Castle in the present city of Schwarzenbach an der Saale in the Upper Franconian district of Hof began as niederadeliger Ansitz called Unterhof , was the family of Schönburg-Waldenburg rebuilt as a castle and is now the town hall.

Unterhof

In Schwarzenbach an der Saale there were three knight seats, the Oberhof , the Unterhof and the Wal in Seuckenreuth . The latter two were located a short distance on both banks of the Saale to secure a ford of the old road that led past the Kirchberg.

The Unterhof was part of the property of the von Hirschberg family , which Schwarzenbach, the manor Förbau ("Vorbin") and various areas on the Kornberg received as fiefs from the burgraves of Nuremberg in 1381 . The Margraves of Kulmbach-Bayreuth later became liege lords. The von Hirschberg family stayed until 1570, when Christoph von Rothschütz, Amtmann zu Hohenberg, bought Förbau and subsequently Schwarzenbach. Kaspar Urban von Feilitzsch, margravial chancellor and prime minister, bought the manor Förbau in 1620 and Schwarzenbach in 1623 and sold a forest area behind the Kornberg with all rights to the margrave, for which he received sovereign rights (neck court, patronage right) over the area. His daughter inherited these estates in 1649 and brought them together with Schwarzenbach into the marriage with the imperial baron Lorenz von Stein.

By marriage, the Schwarzenbach and Förbau estates with all rights and a number of villages and hamlets in the area came to the counts and later princes of Schönburg-Waldenburg in 1706 . The Schönburger line, based in Gauernitz in Saxony, built a castle in Schwarzenbach as a summer residence (today's town hall) and exercised patrimonial rights until 1836. In 1845 she founded a hospital foundation and built a hospital.

The privileges of the manor as part of the Vogtland knighthood included scripture , supreme court and community rule as well as the right of patronage over the St. Gumbertus Church . At times the manor owned the Vorwerk in Stobersreuth and also had property in Nonnenwald .
