Bolat Atabaev

Bolat Atabajew (Болат Атабаев), according to other transcription bolat Atabayev (* 1952 ) is a Kazakhstan theater director and human rights fighter.

Life

Atabaev studied in Leipzig . He was the founder and for a long time director of the German Theater in Almaty . He also founded the Aksaray theater. In Schlöndorff Kazakhstan film Ulzhan (2007) was Atabajew co-author. He was awarded the Goethe Medal in Weimar in August 2012 for his services to the theater .

His attitude critical of the government and his advocacy for the interests of workers, e. B. 2011 in connection with a strike by oil workers in Shangaosen , brought him into opposition to the government in Kazakhstan. He was arrested in June 2012 and, after protests, mainly from Germany, released from custody in July 2012 and released again.

Atabajew has been the patron of the Cologne Theater Academy since December 1st, 2012 .
