Marienkirche in Himmelkron

The Marienkirche Himmelkron is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church and Marienkirche and was the collegiate church of the Himmelkron monastery until the Reformation .

history

The history of the church is closely linked to the Himmelkron monastery . While the Bayreuth margraves Christian Ernst and Georg Wilhelm redesigned the monastery into the Himmelkron hunting lodge , the collegiate church also underwent radical changes. Its architecture and furnishings have been redesigned according to the new denomination and current tastes. The margrave style that set in brought among other things a pulpit altar as an expression of the new creed. Numerous tombs from the time of the monastery and the baroque furnishings shape the interior of the church to this day.

In 1590 the monastery church was designated as a parish church . The beginnings of Protestantism extend into the time of the split in the church. The preacher Johannes Behaim, who openly criticized Abbess Apollonia von Waldenfels from the pulpit in 1531, is classified by Theodor Zinck as the first evangelical pastor. The series of evangelical pastors, beginning with Nicolaus Domanus, has been known without gaps since 1547. The only surviving tombstone of a pastor in the church choir is that of Johann Raspius and his wife. His tenure in the town from 1655 to 1685 was one of the longest. Pastor Johann Daniel Alberti (term of office from 1746 to 1748) campaigned for the preservation of the artistically significant north wing of the cloister , which should initially be demolished according to the plans of Margrave Christian Ernst. Pastor Theodor Christoph Adam Dorfmüller (term of office from 1835 to 1836) is one of the co-founders of the Historical Association for Upper Franconia . He was the last to describe the stone figures of the cloister, which had been deposited in the knight's chapel and left to decay. He also mentioned tombs of the Künsberg , Wirsberg , Herberstein and Wolfersdorff , which are largely unknown today. Part of his tombstone is exhibited in the collegiate church museum. Pastor Johann Friedrich Georg Gottlieb Langheinrich (term of office from 1883 to 1895) is responsible for the settlement of various social institutions of Diakonie Neuendettelsau in the village, which was essential for the maintenance of the former monastery and castle buildings.

Services are held regularly in the church. The pastor's position has been filled again with Pastor Michael Krug since June 2011. The neighboring Grampp parish hall is available to various church groups and for other events, as well as for children's services. Several offers are aimed specifically at children and young people.
