history

Berneck, Bischofsgrün, Goldkronach, Himmelkron, Lanzendorf, Nemmersdorf and Streitau belonged to the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Kulmbach during the Reformation . The Reformation was introduced by George the Pious in 1528. At that time, Marktschorgast belonged to the Bamberg monastery with the Gefrees branch . In 1532 the Margrave Georg Gefrees succeeded in breaking away from Marktschorgast as an independent parish and introducing the Reformation. Marktschorgast remained Catholic and is now a diaspora community. The pastor's office is shared with the traditionally Protestant community of Streitau.

On December 7th, 1810, the deanery was set up with parishes formerly Hof. On November 2, 1814, Stammbach was ceded to Münchberg and on September 5, 1874 Wirsberg to Kulmbach.
