The Protestant church district of Bayreuth is one of the six church districts of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . It covers almost the entire area of Upper Franconia and small parts of Lower Franconia , Middle Franconia and the Upper Palatinate .
The currently (as of 2019) incumbent regional bishop is senior church councilor Dorothea Greiner , who was previously a personnel officer in the regional church office .
history
The church district was set up in January 1921 by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria, together with the church districts of Munich and Ansbach , when, after the end of the state church regiment, the consistorial church became a presbyterial-synodal church and the Bayreuth consistory was abolished. The Coburg deanery was added in April 1921 after the Free State of Coburg had merged with Bavaria as early as 1920. When the church district of Nuremberg was formed in 1935 and the church district of Regensburg in 1951, the church district gave several deaneries to the new church districts.
Deanery districts
The church district is divided into the 16 deanery districts:
