The Protestant church district of Munich and Upper Bavaria is one of the six church districts of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . It is essentially identical to the area of Upper Bavaria . The currently incumbent regional bishop is Oberkirchenrat Christian Kopp .
history
The church district was set up in January 1921 together with the church districts of Bayreuth and Ansbach , when, after the end of the sovereign church regiment, the consistorial church was uneducated to a presbyterial-synodal church and the upper consistory in Munich was abolished. In 1952, the church district was the deaneries Landshut, Passau and Regensburg at the newly founded parish of Regensburg the deanery Pappenheim to existing since 1935 Kirchenkreis Nuremberg from; 1971 the deaneries Augsburg, Ebermergen (now Donauwörth), Kempten (Allgäu), Memmingen, Neu-Ulm, Nördlingen and Oettingen to the newly founded church district Augsburg . Establish their own church districts for Eastern Bavaria and Swabia resulted from the influx of expellees Lutheran Confession in originally purely Catholic areas after the Second World War.
