The Evangelical Church District Ansbach-Würzburg is one of the six church districts of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . It includes the western part of Central Franconia and largely Lower Franconia . On March 2, 2014, Gisela Bornowski was introduced to the office of regional bishop in St. Johannis in Würzburg . It represents around 435,000 Protestant Christians from 455 congregations. The sermon churches of the regional bishop are St. Gumbertus in Ansbach and St. Johannis in Würzburg, where the Amstein tours traditionally take place.

history

The predecessor of the parish was the Royal Bavarian Consistory in Ansbach, here the stamp from the 19th century

The church district was set up in 1921 by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria under the name Kirchenkreis Ansbach with the church districts Munich and Bayreuth . In 1987 it was renamed the Ansbach-Würzburg parish .

In 1935 and 1951 the parish gave several deaneries to the newly founded parish of Nuremberg .

The parish of Ansbach-Würzburg held a special position for a long time due to its two bishoprics, whereby the bishopric in Würzburg was closed for cost reasons. Time and again it has also been considered whether the deaneries of Lower Franconia should be spun off from the Ansbach-Würzburg parish and form a separate parish, but this has so far met with opposition.
