history
The evangelical roots of the parishes of the deanery district go back to the Reformation. The rulers at that time were primarily the imperial city of Rothenburg and the margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach .
On February 26, 1526, Rothenburg finally declared itself Protestant. The Augsburg Interim brought a setback. In 1554 evangelical preaching was possible again in St. Jakob. On August 27, 1556, the Teutonic Order ceded all church rights. In the Rothenburg region, Protestant teaching was introduced at the same time as the city, where the city had patronage rights. This was the case in 21 out of 45 parishes. Today they are in Bavaria : Adelshofen , Bettwar , Erzberg , Gailnau , Gattenhofen , Habelsee , Kirnberg , Leuzenbronn , Neusitz , Ohrbach , Schweinsdorf , Spielbach , Steinsfeld , Tauberscheckenbach , Wettringen , and Wörnitz . In Baden-Württemberg today are: Finsterlohr , Gammesfeld , Hausen a. B. , Leuzendorf , Lichtel , Oberstetten , Schmerbach and Wildentierbach . 1544 is also the year in which Steinach ad Enns became Protestant. Here the right of patronage lay with the senior of the entire Castell family . In Gebsattel , the Komburg monastery had the right of patronage, so that the parish was again occupied by Catholics from 1584. The following Ansbach patronage parishes became Protestant in the Rothenburg area: around 1540 Oestheim , 1540 Diebach , 1544 Insingen , Bettenfeld and 1549 Lohr . In Frankenheim the Hohenlohe introduced the Reformation before 1546.
A consistory was founded in 1559 for church administration in Rothenburg. It was run by a superintendent until 1701, then by a councilor until it was mediated . The main preacher of St. Jakob held the position of superintendent.
