The Evangelical Lutheran deanery in Windsbach is one of the 19 deaneries in the Ansbach-Würzburg parish . It is one of the smallest deaneries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria in terms of both area and membership . The partner dean is Laulu in Papua New Guinea .

history

Certificate of founding of the deanery
Heinrich Brandt, 3rd Dean (1831–1842) and founder of the Windsbach parish orphanage

In the course of the state and ecclesiastical reorganization of the Kingdom of Bavaria, deaneries were formed under the leadership of Maximilian von Montgelas , which had to be as congruent as possible with the respective district courts. In order to achieve this for the district of Heilsbronn , the Windsbach deanery was formed on December 7, 1810 from parts of the Schwabach deaneries (Barthelmesaurach, Bertholdsdorf, Dürrenmungenau, Heilsbronn, Neuendettelsau, Petersaurach, Wassermungenau, Weißenbronn and Windsbach), Leutershausen and Immeldorf, Lichtenau Saxony), Langenzenn (Bürglein) and Gunzenhausen (Merkendorf and Hirschlach). Merkendorf and Hirschlach returned to the dean's office in Gunzenhausen in 1876, and Barthelmesaurach returned to Schwabach in 1922. The parish of Saxony was assigned to the dean's office in Ansbach on April 7, 1883.

In the 19th century the pastors Wilhelm Löhe and Heinrich Brandt brought about a renewal of the parish in the deanery, which at that time was not found anywhere else in the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Bavaria. For this reason, the Windsbach deanery is also referred to as the "Brunnenstube der Landeskirche" or "Herz im Frankenland".

From 1977 to 1993 the two parishes of Wassermungenau and Dürrenmungenau were merged. The parish of Vestenberg has belonged to the deanery since 2011, which until then belonged to the deanery of Ansbach.

geography

The deanery is located in the southeast of the church district Ansbach-Würzburg and is directly adjacent to the church district Nuremberg . Its area is in Rangau in Middle Franconia .
