The place is characterized by the village linden tree and the large pond on the outskirts. It is protected as a natural monument.

history

Winkelhaid was probably founded before the 12th century. A stone from the first church with the inscription from the year of construction in 1103 has been preserved.

According to the Salbuch of the Teutonic Order Coming of Nuremberg from 1343, the Eschenbach District Bailiff owned 1 Hube in Winkelhaid . In the Salbuch of the Hochstift Eichstätt of 1404 two farms are listed that were subordinate to it. In the Salbuch of the Eichstättischen collegiate monastery St. Nikolaus zu Spalt from 1380 three subject families are listed for Winkelhaid. In the books of 1460, 1517 and 1549 only two subject families are given. In 1529, the main Hergersbach team of the imperial city of Nuremberg were subordinate to 3 subject families in the village.

In the 16-point report of the Oberamt Windsbach from 1608, 12 teams were recorded for Winkelhaid: 1 Köbler was subordinate to the Merkendorf administration office , 2 courtyards to the Eichstättischen Kastenamt Spalt , 2 courtyards to the municipal bailiff's office in Eschenbach, 2 courtyards and 2 estates to the Lords of Heideck , 3 farms to the Oberamt Schwabach and 1 farm to the Flechtner heirs in Ansbach. There was also the communal shepherd's house. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach caste and city bailiff's office in Windsbach . In the Thirty Years' War Winkelhaid was destroyed. In 1652 the place was still considered completely deserted. In the Eichstätter Salbuch of 1671, 16 subject families were again recorded for Winkelhaid, 2 of which were subordinate to the caste office Spalt, 1 to the monastery Spalt, 9 to the Oberamt Windsbach and 4 to the Nuremberg owner Groß .

Towards the end of the 18th century Winkelhaid formed a community with Bremen- , Käs- and Thonhof . There were 15 properties in Winkelhaid. The high court and the village and community rulership was exercised by the caste and municipal bailiff's office in Windsbach. Landlords were the Principality of Ansbach ( Kastenamt Windsbach : 1 Ganzhof, 1 Dreiviertelhof, 1 Gütlein, 1 Zapfenwirtschafts-Gütlein; Merkendorf Administrator's Office: 1 Köblergut), the Kastenamt Spalt (3 Ganzöfe), Nuremberg owners ( von Tucher : 1 Halbhof; Kreß von Kressenstein : 1 Ganzhof, 1 Halbhof, 2 Gütlein), the Ansbach owner of Seefried (1 Ganzhof) and the Eschenbach City Bailiff of the Teutonic Order (1 Halbhof). In addition to the property, there were also communal buildings (shepherd's house, small smith's house) and church buildings (ruins of the Marienkapelle). There were 16 subject families at that time, 7 of which were Ansbachian. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the Justice and Chamber Office Windsbach .

In the geographic statistical-topographic lexicon of Franconia (1804) the place is described as follows:

“A hamlet of 16 subjects, evangelically parish to Windsbach, 2 hours northwest of Spalt via Deulnburg, located in the Ansbach Oberamte Windsbach, between Wassermungenau and Mitteleschenbach, of which 4 are Eichstättisch and 2 of them are to the Oberland care and caste office Wernfels Spalt, the other 2 to the princely tax office the collegiate in Spalt belong.
The offices of Wernfels and Windsbach have in common the Kirchweyh protection and the common crime, as in the case of Wasserminau, according to the contract.
This hamlet has beautiful woods towards both Mitteleschenbach and water inaccuracy. Flows through the middle of the hamlet [Sp. 265] the brook, which conventionally from the ponds to the Käsehof, and falls under the ball mill into the Gersbach. "

In 1806 Winkelhaid came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, Winkelhaid was assigned to the Wassermungenau tax district, formed in 1808 . It belonged to the rural community Wassermungenau, founded in 1810 . With the second community edict (1818) Winkelhaid and Thonhof broke away from Wassermungenau and formed a rural community. It was subject to the Heilsbronn Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and the Windsbach Rent Office in the financial administration . From 1862 to 1879 Winkelhaid was administered by the Heilsbronn district office, since 1880 by the Schwabach district office ( renamed Schwabach district in 1938 ) and the Spalt rent office (1920–1932: Spalt tax office , from 1932: Schwabach tax office ). Jurisdiction remained with the Heilsbronn District Court until 1879, and with the Roth District Court from 1880 . The municipality had an area of 5.028 km².

The Grünthalhof is listed as a district in an index from 1867. In the course of the regional reform , Winkelhaid was incorporated into Windsbach on July 1, 1972.
