The toponym "winter–" describes the north-facing position of a place or, more generally, a cold location. For centuries the place was also known as the "Solitude Windenhof".

The Winterhof also belonged to Bertholdsdorf towards the end of the 18th century. He was still subject to the Windsbach caste office. Under the Prussian administration (1792–1806) of the Principality of Ansbach, the Winterhof received the number 30 of the place Bertholdsdorf when the house numbers were assigned. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the Justice and Chamber Office Windsbach .

As part of the community edict, Winterhof was assigned to the Bertholdsdorf tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Bertholdsdorf, founded in 1810 . In the course of the regional reform , Winterhof was incorporated into Windsbach on May 1, 1978.
