St. Georg in Bertholdsdorf

St. Georg is a church named after St. George of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Bertholdsdorf ( Dean's Office Windsbach ) in the Central Franconian district of Ansbach .

Building description and history

The current St. George's Church was probably built as a fortified church in the 15th century . The late Gothic choir tower , which bears the year 1586 on the south side, has been preserved. The three original church tower bells have not been preserved, one bell dates from 1869, two bells from 1950.

Because of fires or structural measures, the nave had to be rebuilt or changed several times. The present nave was built from 1877 to 1880 from about 2000 sandstone blocks and was opened on August 8, 1880 inaugurated be. The church fair Sunday was set to the Sunday before Laurentius (August 10th).

The cemetery was originally located around the church. When this became too small, the parish acquired the so-called Schlossacker. In 1839 the new cemetery was inaugurated.

In 1947, a major renovation of the nave was carried out under the pastor Eberle.

History of the parish

A church building in Bertholdsdorf is mentioned for the first time in 1190 in a document in which it says that the Eichstätt bishop Otto had consecrated three churches in the Aurachtal , namely Voraha (Veitsaurach), Percholdsdorf and Volandsdorf (Wollersdorf). At the end of the 13th century, Bertholdsdorf is mentioned as a separate parish, which was subordinate to the Canons of St. Nikolaus in Spalt. In 1479 the patronage on St. George is mentioned for the first time.

On September 28, 1597, Margrave Georg Friedrich I bought the manor in Bertholdsdorf and introduced the Reformation in Bertholdsdorf the following day. As a result, St. Georg became a branch of the parish of St. Margareta (Windsbach) . It was looked after by the rectors of the Latin school in Windsbach, who were also pastors. From 1729 St. Georg was an independent parish, which was initially assigned to the dean's office in Schwabach , and from 1810 to the newly founded dean's office in Windsbach.

The parish district includes the places Bertholdsdorf, Brunn , Buckenmühle (from 1812), Kettersbach , Kitschendorf , Lanzendorf , Suddersdorf , Veitsaurach , Waldhaus , Watzendorf (from 1812), Winterhof and Wollersdorf (from 1812).

Kapsdorf , Leipersloh (1829–1857), Rudelsdorf and Wernsbach also formerly belonged to the parish.
