Bishop Otto in the Pontifical Gundekarianum

Otto († March 7, 1196 ) was Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt from 1182 to 1196.

Otto came from an unknown family. A ministerial family is assumed and Otto's relationship to the canon Walbrun is known, who was a candidate for bishopric in 1149. From 1166 Otto is a member of the Eichstätter cathedral chapter and he then rose to cathedral dean and in 1169 to cathedral provost. Otto was elected immediately after Egelolf's resignation . He received his consecration from the Augsburg bishop Hartwig I. von Lierheim . Otto hardly appeared in imperial politics, but he was very active within the diocese: He held at least four diocesan synods and the Pontifical Gundekarianum lists 105 churches and altars that the bishop consecrated (e.g. Pleinfeld , Bergen , Bergheim , Buxheim , Eitensheim , Erkertshofen , Großnottersdorf , Hitzhofen , Kipfenberg , Landershofen , Titting , Veitsaurach ). He was buried in the Maria Magdalenen Chapel in Eichstätter Cathedral, which he built .
