history

Until the church is planted

Around the year 500 there was a larger settlement from the Merovingian period in the area of today's Titting , as documented by row graves . The syllable -ing in the place name indicates that Bavarians settled here and that this settlement was Christianized even before the Eichstätt missionary monastery was founded in 740 by the Anglo-Saxon Benedictine monk Willibald . In the 12th century there is evidence of a local nobility, for example a Hartwig von Titting is mentioned in the donation book of the Berchtesgaden monastery for 1130–1147 . Bishop Otto von Eichstätt (ruled 1183–1195) consecrated two churches here at the same time: In Obertitting St. Michael and Untertitting St. Martin as a branch of Emsing am Morsbach . 1186 confirmed Pope Urban III. the Eichstätter cathedral chapter property in Titting. In 1250, Count Gebhard IV von Hirschberg gave his Tittinger mill to the German rulers of Ellingen . In 1296 the patronage of the parish church of St. Michael passed from the Hirschbergers to the prince-bishop and in 1305 it was incorporated into the cathedral chapter. In 1544, Prince-Bishop Moritz von Hutten bought Titting from the Neuburg family for the bishopric , thereby putting an end to the Reformation in the town. Around 1600, Titting became the administrative center for the surrounding towns and became an oppidum , a market . In the Thirty Years' War was Dutting devastated by Swedish troops 1634th

The market fell in Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 with most of the hochstiftischen area which for 1500 Franconian Circle belonged to the Duchy of Salzburg of Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany and belongs to Bavaria since the peace treaties of Brno and Bratislava 1805th In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the municipality edict of 1818 gave rise to today's municipality, which belonged to the Central Franconian district and the Hilpoltstein district , which was dissolved in 1972 .

20th century

In 1996 Titting received the title of state-approved resort . The nursing home for the elderly is an institution in the Eichstätt district. Titting is a school and parish town.

Titting Castle

In the area of the Tittingen moated castle (today the ponds are drained) the nobles of Titting probably already had their seat, which is attested to in 1237. The irregular octagon is grouped around an inner courtyard and consists of two-story and two equally high three-quarter-round towers with a helmet roof. In 1525 the castle was looted during the Peasants' War. After the nobles of Titting, Heinrich Hofstetter sat here in 1358, followed by the Erlingshofen family , then the Lidwacher , who sold the castle and village to Duke Ottheinrich von Pfalz-Neuburg in 1535 , whereupon the Reformation was introduced in Titting . The core of today's palace complex goes back to the time it was owned by the Neuburger.

In 1544 the place and the castle came into the possession of the prince-bishop of Eichstätt and thus became Catholic again. The castle became the seat of the prince-bishop's nursing office Titting, after the end of the Thirty Years War of the nursing office Raitenbuch -Titting. Since the keepers rarely lived in the castle in the 18th century, the prince-bishop had it converted into a princely brewery in 1786. After secularization , the castle came into private ownership in Bavarian times in 1855 and has since been the center of a medium-sized brewery , which is best known for its wheat beer .

religion

The Catholic pastor of the Tittingen parish of St. Michael is also responsible for the parishes of Erkertshofen and Kaldorf. In 1713 a new choir and a tower with sacristy were added to an older nave of the parish church of St. Michael. Two decades later, the building was extended to the west. Around 1735, Franz Horneis stuccoed the church and built the stucco pulpit. After the Second World War, this church was abandoned for a new building.
