Altmannstein is a market in the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt and is located in the Schambach Valley in the Altmühltal Nature Park .
geography
The community is located in the southeastern foothills of the Franconian Alb and the northern part of the Hallertau between the Altmühl in the north and the Danube in the south.

history
Until the church is planted
The place got its name after the Altmannstein Castle built by Altmann II von Abensberg after 1232. Duke Ludwig II of Bavaria acquired Ulrich III in 1291 . von Stein built the castrum Altmannstein in 1291 and left the seller as fiefdom holder and administrator at the castle.
In 1331 Altmannstein received by its owner, Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria , the market rights . From 1777 to 1808 the place belonged to Lower Bavaria, in 1818 it became an independent municipality as part of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria .
19th and 20th centuries
From 1808 to 1810 Altmannstein belonged to the Altmühlkreis , from 1810 to 1838 to the Regenkreis , from 1838 to 1972 to the Upper Palatinate and from July 1, 1972 in the course of the district reform to Upper Bavaria.
Altmannstein had a railway connection with the station of the same name on the Ingolstadt – Riedenburg railway line . Passenger traffic took place between May 1, 1903 and the final cessation of operations on May 28, 1972.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent communities Berghausen, Hexenagger, Mendorf (with parts of the community of Sollern, which was dissolved on April 1, 1929), Neuenhinzenhausen (with the remaining areas of the dissolved community of Sollern), Schafshill, Schamhaupten and Steinsdorf were incorporated. On October 1, 1976, Sandersdorf was added. On July 1, 1977, Pondorf and Winden followed. The series of incorporations was completed on May 1, 1978 with the incorporation of Hagenhill, Laimerstadt and Tettenwang.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the market grew by 450 inhabitants or 6.9% from 6551 to 7001.

Mayor was Adam Dierl (CSU) since January 1, 1986; he was appointed former mayor in September 2012. On July 22, 2012, Norbert Hummel (CSU / non-party voter) was elected as his successor.

The state road St 2231 and the district road EI 30 lead through Altmannstein . The nearest motorway connections are the Denkendorf (approx. 19 km) and Ingolstadt-Nord junction of the A 9 (approx. 24 km). There are bus connections throughout the Altmühltal.

Altmannstein is on the German Limes Road .
Long-distance cycle routes
The German Limes Cycle Route runs through the community . It follows the Upper German-Raetian Limes over 818 km from Bad Hönningen on the Rhine to Regensburg on the Danube.
Long-distance hiking trails
The Limes hiking trail also runs through Altmannstein.
