history

Sandersdorf was first mentioned in 1137 when the Schamhaupten Monastery was founded . In the middle of the 12th century, the Wittelsbach ministries of the Sandersdorfer built a castle in Obersandersdorf, the owner of which changed several times in the following years. During the Thirty Years' War , the castle and town were completely destroyed and then rebuilt.

In 1831 an earthenware factory ("Kannenbäckerei") was founded, which flourished for decades. Located in the Riedenburg district office , the community to which Untersandersdorf and Hützmühl belonged had around 250 inhabitants. With the Bavarian district reform , the municipality of Sandersdorf came to the district of Eichstätt on July 1, 1972, and thus from the administrative district of Upper Palatinate to the administrative district of Upper Bavaria . On October 1, 1976, Sandersdorf was incorporated into the Altmannstein market. In 1983 there were 965 inhabitants; on March 15, 2007 the population was 736.

Sandersdorf had a railway connection on the Ingolstadt – Riedenburg railway line . Passenger traffic existed between May 1, 1903 and the final cessation of operations on May 28, 1972.
