Place name interpretation

The early spelling “Ponstorf” contains the Latin word “pons” for “bridge” as a transition from the early Roman empire to the Germanic empire; however, this thesis has not been clearly clarified.

history

About 1.7 kilometers south of Pondorf there is a late Celtic quadrangular hill in the forest "Grabenholz", which was previously interpreted as a Roman hill.

Pondorf was first mentioned in a document in the 8th century. In 1037 Pondorf was incorporated as a branch of the Schamhaupten parish into the monastery built there at the same time . 1179 confirmed Pope Alexander III. Possession and rights of the Eichstätter cathedral chapter in Pondorf; In 1183 the cathedral chapter handed over the church in Pondorf to the Schamhaupten monastery against interest. In 1212 the Schottenkloster in Regensburg owned an estate in Pondorf. In 1606, with the dissolution of the Schamhaupten Monastery, its property passed to the University of Ingolstadt ; in Pondorf these were a farm, a Hube and four pieces of land. During the Thirty Years' War , the village was sacked by the Swedes from 1632 to 1634. From 1666 there was a branch line of the Muggenthal von Hächsenacker family in Pondorf. In 1832 Pondorf had 57 houses and 280 inhabitants with Stenzenhof and Weiherhof. In 1838 Franz Xaver Mayer, pastor of Pondorf and local history researcher, describes his parish village as follows: "Pondorf, 2 hours from Rietenburg (= Riedenburg ), on the Salzburg-Nuremberg Commercialstrasse, is a handsome parish village with a completely new (1832) beautiful parsonage, new schoolhouse (built in 1820) and beautiful tables ... ”At that time, the University of Munich in Pondorf had“ many landholders and all the grain toe in the whole parish ”. In 1900 a water pipe was built up from Schamhaupten - one of the first water pipes on the Jura; the drinking water supply was always problematic because of the altitude. On March 15, 1913, five barns and several outbuildings fell victim to a large fire in Pondorf. 1962 to 1964 the community built a new water supply system, in 1965/66 a new schoolhouse, and in 1971 a new cemetery with a mortuary.

Neuses was incorporated into the municipality of Pondorf. On July 1, 1972, Pondorf was incorporated into the Altmannstein market and at the same time came from the Riedenburg district to the Eichstätt district.
