Ferdinand Seiler

Ferdinand Seiler (* 1962 in Sandersdorf ) is a German tenor , lecturer and singing teacher .

biography

Ferdinand Seiler attended the humanistic music high school of the Regensburger Domspatzen , where he graduated from high school in 1981. He then studied singing at the Munich University of Music with Kammersänger Raimund Grumbach and Rita Hirner-Lill. Seiler completed further studies in lieder and concert singing with Erik Werba , Helmut Deutsch and Hanns-Martin Schneidt . He also attended a master class with James King .

Seiler had his first permanent engagement at the Städtische Bühnen Wuppertal . In 1990 and 1991, in Mozart's jubilee year, Ferdinand Seiler sang Pedrillo in Mozart's singspiel Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Vienna State Opera as part of the Vienna Mozart Festival . In February 1990 he also sang Pedrillo in a new production of Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels in a co-production with the Wiener Festwochen. In the 1991/92 season he sang the helmsman in a new production of Richard Wagner's opera Der Fliegende Holländer at the Grand Théâtre de Genève . In the 1991/92 season he appeared at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as Normanno in a new production of Lucia di Lammermoor (director: Robert Carsen ). In 1992, he appeared at the Salzburg Festival in Salome by Richard Strauss with.

In the 1992/93 and 1993/94 seasons he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Essen Opera House . In the 1992/93 season he worked as a shepherd in a new production of Tristan und Isolde (director: Wolf Siegfried Wagner ; premiere: October 1992); this was followed by the new productions of Der Zigeunerbaron (with Seiler as Ottokar; premiere: October 1992) and La Traviata (director: Gerd Heinz ; premiere: December 1992) with Seiler in the role of Gastone. In the 1992/93 season he also sang Wenzel in a new production of the opera The Bartered Bride (director: Marco Arturo Marelli ; premiere: February 1993) and Pedrillo in a new production of Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Seragl (premiere: April 1993 ). In the 1993/94 season he appeared at the Essen Opera House in a new production as the marriage broker Goro in the opera Madama Butterfly (premiere: October 1993) and as Triquet in Eugen Onegin (premiere: December 1993). He was also back in his previous roles as Ottokar in the operetta Der Zigeunerbaron (WA in October 1993; series of performances in February 1994), as Hirt in Tristan und Isolde (series of performances from October 1993), as Pedrillo (October / November 1993, among others) and cast as Wenzel (December 1993).

Since 1994 Seiler has been working as a freelancer. In August 1994 he made a guest appearance at the Salzburg Festival in a concert performance of Igor Stravinsky's one-act play Renard . In the 1998 season he took over the 1st Grail Knight in Parsifal from Richard Wagner at the Salzburg Festival . In the 1994/95 season he sang the role of Miroslav in a production of Janáček's opera The Excursions of Mr Brouček (director: David Pountney ) at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich . He also sang the role of 3rd Jew in a new production of Salome by Willy Decker at the Hamburg State Opera in the 1994/95 season . In the 1996/97 season he sang the role of Sebas in the world premiere of the opera Der König Kandaules at the Hamburg State Opera . In 1998 he sang the dance master in Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss at the Frankfurt Opera .

He had numerous other engagements at home and abroad, for example at the Milan Scala , the Saxon State Opera in Dresden and the Deutsche Oper in Berlin , as well as other international opera and concert halls such as Paris, Brussels, Tel Aviv, Cleveland, Monte Carlo, Ferrara, Modena, Turin, Geneva, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Athens and Bilbao.

In addition to his work as an opera singer, Seiler also works as a concert singer and lieder singer. His concert repertoire includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach , Joseph Haydn , Georg Friedrich Händel , Giacomo Puccini and Gioacchino Rossini . Seiler worked several times with the Ingolstadt Motet Choir. In 2008 he took part as a soloist in a performance of the Mass op. 54 by Louis Spohr . In 2009 he sang Haydn's seven last words with the Ingolstadt motet choir in the Liebfrauenmünster in Ingolstadt .

He also had numerous radio and television appearances.

Since the winter semester 2004 he has been a lecturer in singing at the University of Augsburg and since the summer semester 2008 he has been a lecturer in singing at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .
