Helmut Deutsch (pianist)

Helmut Deutsch (born December 24, 1945 in Vienna ) is an Austrian pianist , song accompanist and university teacher .

Life

German taught from 1967 to 1979 at the Musikhochschule Wien and from 1986 to 2011 he was a professor for song composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München . He is still connected to the university in Munich as well as the universities in Frankfurt and Nuremberg through guest professorships and gives master classes all over Europe.

German is or has been the accompanist of numerous singers at many international venues and festivals. He worked closely with Hermann Prey for twelve years. Other important singers who accompanied Deutsch were Irmgard Seefried , Ileana Cotrubas , Grace Bumbry , Barbara Bonney , Angelika Kirchschlager , Annette Dasch , Diana Damrau and Jekaterina Sementschuk , Olaf Bär , Bo Skovhus , Michael Volle , Matthias Goerne , Bernd Weikl , Andreas Schmidt , Jonas Kaufmann and Piotr Beczała For many of his numerous recordings he received record awards.

The International Song Competition, which is held in the Schönbrunn Palace Theater , is named after Helmut Deutsch .
