Andreas Schmidt (singer)
Andreas Schmidt (born June 30, 1960 in Düsseldorf ) is a German singer ( bass baritone ).
Life
Andreas Schmidt studied Protestant church music with his father Hartmut Schmidt (B-exam) and singing with Ingeborg Reichelt and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau .
In 1984 he made his operatic debut as Malatesta in “Don Pasquale” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and soon became a permanent member of the company. As a guest he has appeared at the Hamburg State Opera , the German State Opera Berlin, the Bavarian State Opera , the Vienna State Opera , the Grand Theater Geneva, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden , the Opéra de Paris , the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, the Scala Milan and the Metropolitan Opera . Andreas Schmidt has performed with almost all leading European orchestras.
As an oratorio singer he has performed under the direction of Peter Schreier , John Eliot Gardiner and other well-known conductors. Occasionally he also appears as a speaker.
From 2007 to 2010 he was professor for singing at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . Since 2010 he has been a professor at the Munich University of Music and Theater .
