The large oak , also called thousand-year-old oak , stands about 500 meters west of Hexenagger , a district of the Altmannstein municipality in the Eichstätt district , at about 430 meters above sea level . The oak is located right on the edge of the forest near a large field. The Ottersdorf homestead, which gives it its name, is about 250 meters southwest of it .

description

The trunk appears cylindrical and is completely free of knots up to a height of about five meters. It has no cavity, but has lightning damage from the crown to the bottom. There are a few dead branches in the crown, but otherwise it appears in good condition. The ground on which the oak stands is slightly inclined towards the forest. The oak, on the other hand, leans in the opposite direction, towards the field, but still makes a very vital impression overall.

In 1990 the trunk had a height of 1.3 meters with a total height of 29 meters and a crown diameter of 24 meters and a circumference of 7.85 meters. In 2007, the trunk had a circumference of 7.93 meters at the point of its smallest diameter and 8.17 meters at a height of one meter. This makes the tree one of the strongest oaks in Bavaria. The age of the oak is given in the literature as 320 to 450 and over 600 years.
