The pilgrimage site and monastery Klokoty are on the outskirts of the city of Tábor ( Czech Republic ) towards Písek .

history

In the 13th century there was a fortress on this hill. Already in the 14th century a small pilgrimage church was built, which the Hussite military leader Jan Žižka had destroyed in 1421, whereby he also ordered the burning of about 50 members of the picards .

The Benedictines acquired the area in 1679 and built the monastery between 1701 and 1734. Around this time the management of the monastery was transferred to the Benedictines from Melk Abbey . The pilgrimage church is looked after by the Oblate Missionaries today .

The chapel of Johann von Nepomuk with a stucco ceiling is located on the western side of the ambiate . In these rooms there are also seven pictures with extracts from the life of the Virgin Mary (1700). The complex also includes the one-storey residence and baroque chapel, to which a Way of the Cross leads.
