Parish Church of the Holy Cross (Altmannstein)

The parish church Zum Heiligen Kreuz in Altmannstein , Diocese of Regensburg , is a sacred building that is best known for the crucifix of the famous rococo artist Ignaz Günther from Altmannstein, which hangs in the choir of the church.

history

The time the church was founded is not known. But one has to assume that the sacred building already existed before 1421, since the mess beneficiary was founded in that year . In 1664 the roof and the roof structure were renewed due to severe damage. It is said that a wooden Vespers image was venerated from 1699 to 1705. From 1760 to 1764 the church building was rebuilt by the master mason Prädl. Due to a lack of space, the church tower was built above the choir, but it collapsed shortly before its completion and severely damaged the nave . That is why the tower was built at its current location and could only be completed after the church was consecrated in 1763 in 1764. In 1858 the nave of the church was extended 15 feet to the west. In 1890 three new altars were erected in the course of a renovation and in 1908 glass paintings were placed in the windows. In the following year, 1909, the damaged building was repaired again. When the church was rebuilt in 1959 under the direction of architect Haindl from Munich, the nave was generously extended and most of the interior was refurbished. Only the tower and choir remained in their original structure.

organ

The organ was built in 1963 by Orgelbau Plößl from Großmehring and expanded and tonally improved in 2018 by Orgelbau Rainer Kilbert (Hönighausen).
