Until the church is planted

The place was created in the course of the Bavarian conquest around 500. As an important Danube crossing , it remained in the possession of the Bavarian dukes. The fact that "Möhringen" was first mentioned in a document on May 16, 1007, namely in a deed of donation from King Heinrich II to the Benedictine nuns in Neuburg an der Donau , cannot be upheld: The deed was only issued 300 years later on behalf of the Neuburger Klosters because the original of the actual donation had been lost in 1007. In 1173 a Petrissa von Mehring, a ministerial of Margrave Berthold III. von Vohburg, mentioned in a document. The place is mentioned in the manuscripts of the Nibelungenlied from the 13th century and is called "Moringen"; subsequently the endings "-ing" and "-ingen" change. Around 1300 the possessions of the women's monastery in Neuburg "ze Möring" and "ze Zagelheym" (= Kleinmehring) are listed in a book of sages. From the Salbuch of the Munich Klarakloster am Anger from 1426 and 1455 one learns that this monastery also had farms "ze möring".

In 1584 the Neuburg monastery was dissolved in the course of the Reformation ; his property was now administered by a council of churches. When Pfalz-Neuburg was re-Catholicized under Count Palatine Wolfgang Wilhelm , the former Benedictine courtyards in Großmehring came into the possession of the Neuburg Jesuit College in 1634 . In addition to the Jesuits and the Angerkloster, other landowners are mentioned in 1752: Benedictine monastery Geisenfeld , Benedictine monastery Bergen , Katharinenspital Regensburg , Herzog-Georg Meßstiftung Ingolstadt , Kastenamt Vohburg an der Donau and Hofmark Münchsmünster . There were also some of the 154 properties that were freely owned.

Against the unsuccessful protest by the Jesuits, the ducal district judge of the Vohburg nursing court, succeeding the Neuburg monastery judge, exercised jurisdiction from the 16th century ; he had a servant on site. In 1634 the imperial district court confirmed the rights of the Eichstätt monastery as the legal successor to the county of Hirschberg ; Großmehring was one of the 17 changing, if only occasionally used, Schrannenorte of the Hirschberg district court. After the Jesuit ban of 1773, their properties in Großmehring came to the Order of Malta in 1780 , under the Maltese Grand Balley Johann Baptist Freiherr von Flachslanden to the newly formed Kommende Oberhaunstadt . In 1808 Bavaria dissolved the order, Großmehring was now Bavarian property. The patrimonial jurisdiction of the baron did not fall to Bavaria until 1820.

With the municipal edict of 1818, the " tax district " Großmehring , which was formed with the incorporation into Bavaria between 1808 and 1810, became an independent municipality in the Ingolstadt district court , later the district of Ingolstadt - with the involvement of Katharinenberg of the Demling tax district.

In 1838 the place had 138 houses and 796 inhabitants, in 1861 254 buildings and 699 inhabitants.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria in 1972, the district of Ingolstadt was dissolved, and the municipality of Großmehring, which also included Kleinmehring and several mills (from 1838 also the covering shop and from 1853 also the brickworks), was incorporated into the expanded district of Eichstätt. On May 1, 1978 the previously independent communities Demling and Theissing were incorporated.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the community grew from 4,525 to 7207 by 2,682 inhabitants or 59.3%.

economy

The Wuppertal company Coroplast , market leader in the production of adhesive tapes and wiring harness systems, operates one of three Germany-wide service centers in Großmehring.

The Interpark, a project by the community of Großmehring and the Kösching market for the settlement of companies in the community area, is a great success, which is mainly due to the proximity to Audi, the good transport connections and the good cooperation between Großmehring and Kösching. The area of the Interpark, of which approx. 50 percent belongs to Großmehring, has been and is being expanded again and again.

Public facilities

primary school

In the center of the village there is a primary school with grades 1 to 4. Up until the 2015/2016 school year there was a middle school in the same building with grades 5–9, which, however, was gradually no longer approved due to insufficient student numbers. In the 2015/2016 school year, the last 9th grade left school for the time being. The Großmehring middle school students are now switching to the middle schools Kösching or Lenting, for example. At the school, 21 teachers teach in eleven classes (as of the 2017/2018 school year). From the school year 2018/2019 there will be a middle school again, starting with a 5th grade.

Elementary school after-school care

Since the 2009/2010 school year there has been an elementary school day care center in Großmehring, and many parents are happy to accept its offer. It is housed in the rooms of the former middle school.

The community library is housed in the premises of the former middle school.
