Brickworks is a wasteland and part of the community Großmehring in the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt .

location

The remote area is located in the Southern Frankenalb about one kilometer northeast of Grossmehring on the western slope of the "Stone Mountain", an offshoot of the Franconian Jura. It can be reached from the town center via the Zieglerweg.

history

The wasteland was created in 1828 when Leonhard Ernhofer from Großmehring leased the land from the community "forever" and built a brickworks and lime kiln on it within ten years, as well as putting a Jura quarry into operation. The brickyard is mentioned for the first time in the municipality register of 1853. In 1867 the wasteland consisted of five buildings and ten residents. About 50 people were employed here around 1900. In 1905 the brickworks and lime kilns were given up due to growing competition from large companies. The quarry was leased from 1937 and exploited until 1970. The "Ziegler" property of the Ernhofer family is now an agricultural business.
