history
Katharinenberg was called Berghausen or Klebhausen in earlier times. The first mention dates to 822-824. The church, built in 1447, was probably a fortified church with a six-meter-wide and three-meter-deep neck ditch to the west of the church, which was filled with rubble in the 1970s. In a property description from 1752, four properties are listed for Katharinenberg, namely three small houses, a weaver's property and a sacristan's apartment. In 1816 an almost 25 m deep village well was cut through the dolomite rock ; it was later deepened to around 32 m. In 1830 the village consisted of six houses with a total of 32 residents, five of them houses on the hill.
From 1831 to 1845, Katharinenberg hosted a central agricultural festival twelve times with a cattle market, fair, animal awards and horse races.
In 1949 the residents laid a water pipe from their well. Land consolidation was carried out from 1956 to 1960.
The village had belonged to the Upper Bavarian district court (later the district ) of Ingolstadt since 1837 and came to the district of Eichstätt as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
In 1983 the village consisted of seven full-time agricultural businesses and five part-time businesses as well as an inn and a gravel works. Over half of the residents commuted to work in Ingolstadt.
Catholic Church of St. Catherine
On May 29, 1447 the foundation stone for one of St. Katharina consecrated mountain church, a foundation of Paulus Berghauser († 1460); in the 15th century St. Katharina was accepted into the ranks of the 14 emergency helpers, so that her admiration increased greatly. In 1620 the tower was rebuilt. As a result of the secularization in Bavaria and after a lightning strike, the church was partially demolished in 1807; only the tower and the surrounding walls were preserved (Gothic portal on the west side). In 1832, a new building was pulled up, including the remains, which was inaugurated on the 2nd Katharinenbergfest on September 29, 1832. The high altar from the middle of the 18th century shows in the altar sheet a depiction of the third of Anna with St. Joachim and St. Joseph in the background, the statues on the side represent Zacharias and Elisabeth. On the back of the altar there is a painting with the judge of the world, Christ and Peter and Paul; this comes from around 1677 from the former St. Peter's Chapel in Großmehring (today a ruin). From the side altar by Melchior Feselen there is the altar panel from 1524, depicting the birth of Christ, today in the Ingolstadt City Museum . The Vespers group, an excellent work by Leonhard Sininger, Ingolstadt, is today in the parish church of Großmehring. The pulpit is from the middle of the 18th century. A wooden Pietà was created in 1510-20. A stone offering box with a chiseled rosary bears the year 1642.
