Textile adhesive tapes

Coroplast Group was founded in 1928 as Fritz Müller Elektroisoliermaterial in Barmen , which is now a district of Wuppertal. The first few years were still influenced by the textile industry , which made Barmen an important industrial metropolis at the time. The Coroplast Group textile insulation hoses were the first to bring textile tapes to the market for winding electric motors.

During the 1930s, the company was one of the first to use and process polyvinyl chloride , commonly known as PVC , making it a global pioneer in plastics processing . This enabled high-quality insulating hoses and insulated cables to be produced for the German automotive industry before the Second World War .

At the end of the 1940s, the company was renamed Coroplast Fritz Müller . In the years that followed, PVC was calendered into foils , creating a basis for self-adhesive insulating tapes. In the case of adhesive raw materials, too, they did not rely on the previously common types of rubber , but on a new form of acrylates in aqueous dispersions . Here, too, Coroplast Group consolidated its pioneering role, as the use of solvent-free adhesives was a novelty from an ecological point of view.

This later laid the foundation for today's business areas. Over the years, conventional PVC has been supplemented by thermoplastic materials and elastomers . The plastic mixtures required for the production of various pipe systems are still largely produced in the company's own compounding plant. In parallel to compounding, calendering and extrusion , Coroplast Group has also established itself as an injection molding specialist for high-quality materials.

In 2020, the former business areas of technical adhesive tapes , cables & wires and wire harnesses from Coroplast will merge into independent brands under the Coroplast Group. The technical adhesive tapes division gets the addition of tape to the brand name, the cables and wires division is called Coroflex and the wiring harness division is named WeWire .
