Altdorf is a district of the Titting market in the Eichstätt district in Bavaria .

Geographical location

The village is located in the Anlautertal on a north-east bend of the Anlauter. A dry valley branches off to the southwest , in which a road to Wachenzell runs. Almost parallel to this, a street from Hirnstetten comes down from the Jura height .

history

Solitary grave mounds and a grave mound field of unknown date were found near Altdorf . There is a rectangular rampart underground, also of unknown time. A section of the Rhaetian Limes with the guard post no. 14/66 is proven at Altdorf ; small finds from the Roman Empire were made.

In the Middle Ages the village of up to 15 farms belonged to the Brunneck Castle above the village and the lords as episcopal bailiffs / keepers with church (a first consecration is from 1308), the rectory, Furtmühle and the Maierfelder located next to the village on the Jura height Court. From the parish church of St. Nikolaus, today the pastor of Emsing takes care of the pastoral care, the substructure of the tower is still medieval. The church was consecrated in 1308. The local nobility Rüdlin von Erlingshofen ceded the bailiwick to the bishop of Eichstätt Philipp von Rathsamhausen in 1312 . 1486 the village was the personal property of the monastery Rebdorf to the Bishopric reversed. The Schenk von Geyern zu Stossenberg donated a new church (see also list of Frankish knight families # S ); this building was plundered by the Hessians in 1552.

From 1879 to 1971 Altdorf was an independent municipality; since the regional reform , which came into force on January 1, 1972, the village has been a district of Titting. In 1996, together with Altdorf and Emsing , Titting was awarded the title “ State-approved resort ”.

Culture and sights

Buildings

  • Maierfelder Hof : The Maierfelder Hof has a St. Josef chapel from the early 18th century.
  • Benz (en) mühle : There was a Benz (en) mühle near the village, whose operator, which was paid for by the cathedral chapter of Eichstätt, had been a family "Benz" ("Penz", "Pentz") since 1664. Later the family name "Betz" is read in the church records for this miller family, while the "Benz" was retained in the mill name. Today the former Altdorf mill has house no. 15. A path chapel at the end of the village on the road to Wachenzell dates from the 18th century.
  • Parish Church of St. Nikolaus : In 1732/33 today's church and a new parsonage were built directly next to the church (with hipped roof ) by the prince-bishop's master builder Giovanni Domenico Barbieri and the palier Johann Rigalia according to plans by Gabriel de Gabrieli . The original rectory is now an inn. On September 29, 1742, the church consecration took place under Prince-Bishop Johann Anton von Freyberg (r. 1736–1757) ; his coat of arms is on the high altar. A short octagon rises above the medieval tower substructure , crowned by a tiled mansard helmet. In 1873 and 1924 the tower received a new bell. The bandwork stucco and the stucco pulpit were made by Franz Xaver Horneis . The altarpiece of the high altar with four columns shows the church patron calming a storm at sea, probably painted by the Eichstatt painter Joseph Dietrich. In addition to the baroque furnishings, there are also late Gothic sculptures of the hll. Barbara and Katharina (1470/80) available. The schoolhouse built next to the church in 1880 was demolished in the 20th century when the cemetery was expanded.
  • Brunneck Castle , now in ruins, was built at the end of the 14th century by the Lords of Heideck .

Natural monuments

The blue fountain natural monument
  • The blue fountain , a rich karst spring , is on the ascent to the castle ; there is also a large crucifix from the 18th and 19th centuries. Century. The spring in a 4 m long, 3 m wide and 1 m high masonry version is considered a Bavarian geotope and as such has the number 176Q008; it flows off through an initials. The average discharge of the karst spring is well over 100 liters per second. Since it is a source from the Shallow Karst, the pouring fluctuates very strongly.
  • At the Furtmühle located between Altdorf and Erlingshofen, the entrance to the so-called Furtloch lies in a south-westerly direction in the forest just below the edge of the slope at the foot of a rock face . After a four-meter-long crawl you come to a dome of the rock about three meters in diameter and six meters high. The cave walls are covered with limestone and there are stalactites . A legend of the "Furtfräulein" is connected to the cave. Finds that point to the Stone Age have been made in the cave .
