Johann Rigalia the Younger
Johann Rigalia the Younger (also: Giovanni; also: Rigaia; Rigaga; also: Rigaglia; also Giovanni III. Rigalia) (* around 1697; † 14 September 1733 in Augsburg ) was a master mason from Graubünden in the service of the Prince Diocese of Eichstätt during the Baroque period .
Life
He was a / the son of Giovanni Rigalia the Elder from Roveredo (Roffle) in Graubünden (mentioned 1687–1713), who worked in 1701 under the architect Enrico Zuccalli at the electoral palace at Schleissheim . Johann was still trained in his homeland and in 1713, at the age of 16, after his apprenticeship from the Masons' Corporation ( guild ) in Roveredo (Mesolcina), he received a letter of safe conduct for his work in Germany. Like many of his compatriots, he had chosen Eichstätt as a destination for his journeyman years, where he can be traced back to 1714. In the prince-bishopric of Eichstätt under Gabriel de Gabrieli he finally acted as "Ober Maurer Foreman" and was one of his closest employees as the responsible site manager. He was married to a Catarina. He visited his homeland several times, for example in 1720 and 1729. During the construction of the Catholic pharmacy at Augsburg Cathedral, for which Rigalia had taken on the contract, a stone fell on the back of his head on September 12, 1733; he passed away two days later.
After his death, Giovanni Domenico Barbieri , whom he had brought to Eichstätt as an apprentice mason in 1720, took over his position as court mason.
