Parlier , Parlierer, Palier or Parler is the late medieval job title on which the New High German sounding Polier is based, of the "spokesman for carpenters, stonemasons, masons, etc." The word is a takeover from the old French parlier , speaker; who speaks well or a lot '.

The parlier was usually trained as a sculptor , represented the head of the building works in his absence and, in addition to supervisory activities, also took on the instruction of young stonemasons .

The name of the great master builder Peter Parler (1330-1399) is a variant of Parlier.
