Hartwig von Grögling-Dollnstein
Hartwig von Grögling-Dollnstein († beginning of March 1223 ) was Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt from 1196 to 1223.
origin
Hartwig came from the von Grögling-Dollnstein family of counts . The namesake places are Dollnstein in the Altmühltal , today part of the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt and Grögling near Dietfurt an der Altmühl in the Upper Palatinate district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate . During this period the family took the name Hirschberg . Hartwig was the son of Count Gerhards I, a son of Vogtes Hartwig III. and nephew of the previous Bishop Gebhard II von Grögling . His mother was Sophie von Sulzbach , through whom the county of Sulzbach passed to the Hirschberger.
Life
Hartwig von Grögling-Dollnstein first appeared as the Eichstätter cathedral provost from 1194 . In the dispute over the throne he can also be found in the election and coronation of Philip of Swabia . After the assassination of Würzburg Bishop Konrad von Querfurt , Hartwig was temporarily Chancellor. Only after the death of Phillips of Swabia did he find himself in the entourage of Otto IV , but then sided with Frederick II. Together with other princes and accompanied by two Eichstatt canons, he took part in the unsuccessful Fifth Crusade . During his term of office, the Teutonic Order first settled in the region. Hartwig was buried in the chapel of St. Nicholas and Thomas, which he built, at Rebdorf Abbey.
