St. Andreas is a church named after the Apostle Andreas of the Evangelical Lutheran parish Wassermungenau ( Dean's office Windsbach ) in the Central Franconian district of Roth . With a total length of over 30 meters and seating for over 600, it is the second largest church in the Windsbach deanery.

Building description and history

The current St. Andrew's Church was built from 1846 to 1853 in neo-Romanesque style. The architect was the builder Leonhard Förtscher from Ansbach . The altar originally created for this church by the Ansbach sculptor Herterich, who also designed the pulpit, is now a side altar. In place of this altar the baroque altar of the old church was taken over, which was donated in 1712 by the imperial postman Friedrich Nebert .

Particularly noteworthy from the inventory is the death's crown , as well as the baroque chalice from 1665 and a chalice from 1835 with the inscription "To the glory of God I stand there, who protected from cholera."

In 1943 a Mr. Fischer from Nuremberg carved a chandelier in the classical style. In 1985, the Selbitz sister Christa Maria created an evangelical way of the cross with 13 pictures, a probably unique institution for evangelical standards. In 1992 the church received a new organ from Hey Orgelbau , new bells in 1993, and apostle figures in 1977 and 2002. A comprehensive exterior and interior renovation took place from 2002 to 2004.

History of the parish

A church foundation for the St. Andrew's Church has been attested since 1480. Due to the lack of source material, it cannot be precisely said whether there was a parish before.

St. Andreas was originally a branch of the parish of St. Margareta (Windsbach) . Only in 1729 was it raised to a parish, which was initially assigned to the Schwabach deanery and, from 1810, to the newly founded Windsbach deanery.

The parish includes Beerbach , Bremenhof , Hergersbach , Höfstetten , Hohenrad , Käshof , Pflugsmühle , Stiegelmühle , Theilenberg , Thonhof , Untereschenbach , Wassermungenau , Wernfels and Winkelhaid . From 1977 to 1993 St. Jakobus (Dürrenmungenau) belonged to the parish district.

In addition to the St. Andreas Church, there are also the following church buildings:
