history
The place was first mentioned in 1407 as "brenntleinsmül zu Werdenfelz", named after the name of its owner Brenntlein. In the following years it was named after the local miller Herman Stigler. In 1549, another mill building was added 150 meters further west of the original crucible mill, which was henceforth called the lower crucible mill, while the original was called the upper crucible mill. In 1640 the lower stone mill was called “Preßeckher-Mül”.
Towards the end of the 18th century, the Stiegelmühle and the Presseck-Mühle belonged to Wernfels . The high court was exercised by the Wernfels-Spalt administration office in Eichstatt . Both properties had the caste office Spalt as landlord . Under the Prussian administration (1792–1806) of the Principality of Ansbach, the Stiegelmühle was given the number 40 of the village of Wernfels when the house numbers were assigned, and the Presseck-Mühle was given number 39.
As part of the community edict, Stiegelmühle was assigned to the Wernfels tax district, formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Wernfels, founded in 1811 . On May 1, 1978, Stiegelmühle was incorporated into Spalt as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
