history

The place was first mentioned in the land register of the Lords of Pappenheim , which was set up in 1214, as "Engelbrehthoue". The place name has the personal name of the founder Engelbrecht as a defining word. According to the 16-point report for the Oberamt Roth in 1608, there was an estate in Engelhof that had the state charity office of the imperial city of Nuremberg as landlord . The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Roth . Nothing changed in the situation towards the end of the 18th century.

As part of the community edict, Engelhof was assigned to the Mosbach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Mosbach, founded in 1811 . As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , this was incorporated into Spalt on May 1, 1978.
