history

Due to the place name and its favorable location, it can be assumed that it was founded in the 7th to 9th centuries. This is also indicated by the irregular ground plan and the block conglomerate corridor. The place was in Urbar the Lords of Pappenheim first mentioned by name as "Nidernerlebach". In the following time he came to the monastery Roggenburg , which in 1412 his property in "Nydern Erlbach" to Count Ludwig XI. von Oettingen sold (two farms, two estates, a mill and parish plots ). In 1437 the place came into the possession of the Nuremberg patrician family Rieter von Kornburg . After their extinction in 1753, he came to the Rieter Foundation Administration. Around 1661 the Austrian religious refugee Baron Handel bought the castle, which Wolfgang von Leubelfing acquired by marriage in 1681. From 1788 it was owned by Christian Ludwig von Brandis, the forest councilor.

At the end of the 18th century there were eleven properties in Untererlbach. The high court was exercised by the Wernfels-Spalt administration office in Eichstatt . The village and township government had the manor Untererlbach the Lords of Brandis . The landlords were the Rieter foundation administration Kornburg of the imperial city of Nuremberg (2 whole courtyards, 1 half courtyard, 1 Köblergut, 1 inn, 1 grinding mill) and the Untererlbach manor (1 manor with brewery and tavern, 2 small estates, 2 empty houses ). In addition to the property, there was the castle as a stately and the shepherd's house as a communal building.

As part of the community edict, Untererlbach was assigned to the Wernfels tax district, formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Wernfels, founded in 1811 . On May 1, 1978 Untererlbach was incorporated into Spalt as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
