Hanns Prütting

Hanns Prütting (born January 22, 1948 in Erlangen ) is a German legal scholar who works primarily in the fields of civil law , civil procedure law , insolvency law and professional law.

Life

After studying law at the Universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg and Tübingen from 1967 to 1971, Prütting passed the first state examination in law. From 1972 to 1974 he was a trainee lawyer in the district of the Nuremberg Higher Regional Court . At the same time he studied - also at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg - Economics and worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Civil Law and Procedure Act.

In 1974 he passed the second state examination in law in Munich. Prütting then stayed at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he was Karl-Heinz Schwabs' research assistant until 1981 . Under his supervision, in 1976, with a thesis on the approval of revision, the doctorate to Dr. iur. Five years later he completed his habilitation, also with the supervision of Schwab, with the work Present Problems of the Burden of Proof - An investigation of modern theories of the burden of proof and their application, especially in labor law. His faculty awarded him the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, civil procedural law with voluntary jurisdiction and labor law.

After a substitute for a chair in Hamburg in the winter semester 1981/1982, he accepted a call to the Saarland University , where he held the chair for civil law, civil procedural law and labor law until 1986. In 1984 and 1985 he was also Dean of the Law Faculty. In 1986 he left Saarbrücken and took over the chair for German and foreign civil procedural law and civil law at the University of Cologne , which he has held since then. He was also dean in Cologne from 2003 to 2005. He headed the Association of Civil Procedure Law Teachers for ten years (2002–2012).

Prütting is a co-founder of the Institute for Legal Law of the Cologne Faculty, the first of its kind in Germany, which he is still director today (currently together with Martin Henssler , with whom he has also published a standard commentary on the Federal Lawyers' Act since 1997 ). In the field of civil law, Prütting is identified by name in the textbook on property law , which was founded by Friedrich Lent . Prütting took over the editing of the work from its 23rd edition (1991) from his teacher Schwab. The commentary on the German Civil Code should also be mentioned, which Prütting has been publishing since the first edition in 2006 together with Gerhard Wegen and Gerd Weinreich. Prütting is also co-editor of further comments on the Code of Civil Procedure , the Labor Court Act and the Family Procedure Act .
