Karl-Heinz Schwab

Karl-Heinz Schwab (born February 22, 1920 in Coburg ; † January 17, 2008 in Erlangen ) was a German lawyer and professor of civil law and civil procedural law .

Life

After completing his military service in 1947, Schwab passed the first state examination in law in Munich . He received his doctorate in property law with Leo Rosenberg and, after passing the second state examination in 1950, joined the Bavarian civil service as an assessor. His habilitation in 1953 dealt with the subject of dispute in civil proceedings.

Schwab then accepted a call to the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen , where he held the chair for civil law, civil procedural law and voluntary jurisdiction; In 1956 he became dean of the law faculty and the following year rector of the university. During the 1960s, Schwab received calls to Münster , Cologne and Hamburg , all of which he turned down. It was not until 1970 that he accepted the call to Munich ; In the following year he returned to Erlangen after a renewed call, where he taught and researched until his retirement in 1987. While he was a university lecturer, Schwab was a member of the Erlangen city council and on the board of directors of Bayerischer Rundfunk . 1970 to 1972 he was President of the German University Association .

A total of three festschrifts dealt with Schwab's work.

Schwab was a member of the regional synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria from 1972 to 1990 and as its president from 1984 to 1990.

Honors

Schwab was also an honorary member of the civil litigation societies in Japan (since 1967), Colombia (since 1970), Brazil (since 1976) and Belgium (since 1983).
