Friedrich Wilhelm Schucht (born November 26, 1870 in Oker , † March 31, 1941 in Berlin ) was a German university professor of soil science.

Life

Schucht studied chemistry, geology and mineralogy in Braunschweig, Göttingen and Jena from 1891 to 1895. During his studies he became a member of the Braunschweig fraternity, Alemannia . From 1900 to 1922 he worked at the Prussian State Geological Institute in Berlin. From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War, most recently as Major dR. Since 1922 Schucht was a full professor of soil science at the Agricultural University in Berlin and director of the local institute for geology, mineralogy and soil science. In 1926 he was elected chairman of the newly founded German Soil Science Society . Schucht was elected Rector of the Agricultural University Berlin for the term of office from April 1926 to March 1927 and was Vice-Rector from 1927/28. After the resignation of the rector Wilhelm Freckmann in December 1933, Schucht was appointed rector of the university by the Prussian minister of education Bernhard Rust, disregarding the rectorate elections, where Schucht was ranked fourth.

According to Michael Grüttner, Schucht joined the NSDAP in 1933 . According to the student body of the Agricultural University of December 1933, however, Schucht was " the only party member among the professors before January of this year, and for a long time ". After co-ordination , he took over the management of the university association from June to November 1933 . In October 1933 he announced in the announcements of the Association of German Universities that " the representatives of the humanities will henceforth only be able to draw their teaching from the National Socialist worldview ". Due to the incorporation of the Agricultural University into the university, Schucht was full professor for soil science at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin , director of the university institute for geology, mineralogy and soil science as well as dean of the agricultural-veterinary faculty. In 1935 he was elected President of the International Soil Science Society . Schucht retired in 1937 .
